Trochleoplasty or Trochleaplastik

If the groove (trochlea) for the knee cap is flat or convex and the bony stability is lagging and this is called Trochlea Dysplasia. Trochlea Dysplasia is the most important and common cause for patella instability. In many of these cases we perform a Trochleoplasty / Trochleaplastik in combination with an MPFL reconstruction. The Trochleoplasty operation has now been done routinely by only arthroscope for the last few years, after the operative technique was developed by Lars Blønd. This means that when the procedure can be performed arthrocopically, this gives lesser scar, lesser pain and faster rehabilitation compared to the open method. The Arthroscopic Trochleoplasty is always combined with a reconstruction of the MPFL and when you are troubled by episodic patella instability, this operation has been documented to stabilize the knee cap and to improve quality of daily living and to better sports activity.
